Alex Hollister was always one step ahead of the rumor mongers. As the reclusive A.H., she was a successful horse breeder, an unbeatable jockey, and a savvy businessman. As the fair Alexis, she was a demure and proper lady. Her life was exactly how she wanted it, and her plans were finally ready to be enacted. Everything was running smoothly until her temper landed her in a marriage with a man who didn’t want her, a man who could ruin everything she had worked so hard to achieve.

Marcus Clifton wanted nothing more than to outlive the falsehoods that had ruined his family’s reputation. He had worked hard to get back into the good graces of the elite and had even arranged a marriage that would make the past rumors disappear altogether. He thought he finally had everything that was important to him. Then his cozy and disciplined life came to a crashing halt when an act of uncontrolled temper ended in a marriage with a woman who could destroy it all.

TAYLOR JONES SAYS: In The Infamous A. H. by Dawn Chandler, Alexis Hollister is both a well-bred lady and a mysterious jockey. She is in love with Marc Clifton, who is betrothed to a woman in an arranged marriage whom he doesn’t love and who Alexis knows will not make him happy, but his mind is made up, even though everyone knows he loves Alex as much as she loves him. Marc claims the marriage will restore the reputation of his family and give him the status he wants, but at what cost? In her double life, Alex walks a fine line between being an undisciplined hoyden and a proper lady, always having a convenient alibi when she needs to be the famous jockey, but when she is forced into a marriage she had not planned on, all her dreams and her carefully constructed world may come crashing down.

Filled with wonderful characters, heart-racing suspense, and hilarious predicaments, this is a historical romance that will make you laugh, cry, and bite your nails, sometimes all on the same page.

REGAN MURPHY SAYS: The Infamous A. H. by Dawn Chandler is the story of a young woman far ahead of her time. In 1880s England, eighteen-year-old Alexis Hollister should be content to find a husband and start a family. But Alex has big dreams in an age when women have almost no say over their own lives. In order to achieve her dreams, Alex lives a double life. On the one hand, she is the daughter of a wealthy family, the well-bred and proper lady, and on the other, she is the mysterious and reclusive jockey and horse breeder, A. H. However, living a double life is not easy, especially when a young lady should be chaperoned nearly every waking hour. To train and race her horses, as well as attend to her many other business interests and activities, Alex is constantly disappearing and having to come up with alibis and excuses as to where she has been and what she has been doing, since she obviously cannot tell the truth. Her family simply would not understand. Nor would the man she loves, Marcus Clifton, who appears to value his reputation over his own happiness and has arranged a marriage to a woman he doesn’t love. Alex is determined to save him from himself, but things don’t turn out quite the way she planned when her temper brings the world down around her ears.

I loved the heroine of Chandler’s first book, The Dark Lady, and she doesn’t disappoint in this second book. Strong independent women with minds of their own shine from the pages, bringing to life a time when men only thought they were in control. With plenty of suspense, a number of clever surprises, and marvelous characters you won’t easily forget, The Infamous A. H. should hold a place of honor on any bookshelf.
